  1. I’m not sure you can get this on line, but you can get it by phone at 1-800-609-5668. When I went on line, the "member directory" link didn’t work at one site and the other site required a password. You should be aware the membership in the ABA is completely optional. Many attorneys do not belong, I always have because of their publications, but not belonging to the ABA is meaningless.

    If you have some reason to not trust the lawyer ask to see his bar card. He also should have his license on display in his office.

    Most attorneys have their degrees hanging in their offices and the admittance paper from the State Bar.
