    You go to a solicitor and he hires or procures a Barrister to represent you in court…The bill is paid (if any) to the solicitor and he pays the barrister for you…

  3. From an American point of view: A barrister practices before the court. A solicitor represents the client, advising as to the validity of claims and the nature of the law as applied to the case. These are simplistic answers but should give a starting point.
