I’m going to the Barrister’s Ball in my law school, and the invitation says formal attire…what exactly would you wear? I haven’t been to a "ball" since my senior prom in high school!

Usually its a suit and tie, nice shoes, polished.
Sometimes its a black tie affair, which means you have to wear a tux.

If youre a female, you should wear a cocktail dress or evening gown. Its a ball, so it should be comfortable, and classy. Remember, your professors will be there, and possibly some future employers (your peers, lol) so dress like a beauty queen!

Tip: If the dress is busy, or intricate, keep the shoes and hair low key

If the dress is tight, or figure forming, make the hair loose

Wear pantyhose (usually just nude colored pantyhose- dont go screwing up your look by showing up with black or white legs.)

If the dress is empire waisted, or "flowing", "flippy", you know, not fitted arounf the hips and legs.. its up to you how to do your hair, but usually an updo is called for.

Get your nails and feet done, and wear complimentary accessories, and youre all set. Oh and dont forget a nice little clutch purse, to finish off your look!

    2. I usually means tuxedos and ball gowns.

    3. floor length gown
