A friend of a friend begged me to look at her friends car on the w/end(im a mechanic)which i reluctantly did.told her wot was wrong, approx cost incl labour.(i stopped doin love jobs on w/ends as i mechanic all week) I reluctantly done the svc & timing belt,2 mnths later she returns with her solicitor b/friend is gunna sue me for the blown headgasket which it now has.Told them was ok when i looked at car, gave no hints as to h/gasket probs.Told them go away & that 60 days had passed since svc,how is it my problem.I have just been issued with a summons to go to court.where do i stand?Any suggestions

How can it be possible for you to screw a head gasket? You didn’t have the head off the engine. Your not responsible. I think she is full of **it. Go to court and tell your story.

Unless the service performed had caused it,you were not negligent. If the belt that you installed came off, that could potentially have caused the headgasket problem. I would make sure that you provide documentation for the work, and pictures etc! Remember that most judges have no mechanical knowledge.
