My husband works on ships. Fifteen men together for long periods of time at sea – tempers flair.
He spent 5 weeks of being called a boy (at nearly 40). Finally ended by himself and the person concerned getting into a scuffle.
While being pulled apart by another crew member my husband made called the other fellow a black C@#t in temper.
Result so far cost 00.00 . Our solicitors fees have been quoted as around 000.00 as we are now being sued for Forty Thousand dollars for using the word black!
Being called boy not an issue. Thats up to us to lodge a discrimination action!
000.00 will almost send us broke and the stress is killing us.
He apologised the next day but this is not acceptable. Apparently 000.00 will erase the word black and make the other person feel better!
So wrong! Is this what racial discrimination laws were designed for? Next thing kids will be suing each other in the playground!!!

I do think that Racial discrimination is way out of wack. Everyone has to watch every little thing they say to anyone because they can get sued. Its just NUTS!

I am truely sorry that you are going through this. I wish that that made it better also but it doesn’t. Now just think. Would your husband 1st off had sued the guy if the black guy had said you CRACKER c@$t? prolly not. And if he did try the courts would have probably thrown the case out.

absolutely going too far. they try to use it to their advantage and reap money and attention from others and the media. I live in a city with probably about a 50% indian/pakistani population and THEY EVEN TRY TO CHANGE THE LAWS!!!! I don’t know where you live or what your laws are, but here it is law to wear a helmet when you drive a motocycle, and it’s all over the news because an indian man was stopped by police because he wasn’t wearing a helmet, instead he was wearing a TURBAN!!! Do you believe that they are actually going to CHANGE A FEDERAL LAW to allow indian and pakistani people to not wear a helmet while driving a motorcycle, instead wear their turbas because it’s their "religious beliefs". I have talked to indian ppl about it and they told me that it’s THEIR choice to wear it….. they don’t have to and it makes them no less involved in their religion. I feel for you….. things are definately going WAY too far. hope it all goes as best as it can for you!!!
I know it’s BS. And the scary part is, there are certain persons running for president planning to create even FIRMER laws regarding "hate crimes" which involves these types of circumstances.

I don’t know where you are in the the US but whatever judge you have right now actually granting this BS is seriously out of his/her mind. A normal judge would not award that kind of money for NAME CALLING. I would do my best if I were you not to deal with this judge anymore.
Start speaking with some cut-throat lawyers on approaching a countersuit. Because this amount of money would drive most people in the ground.
