He say’s he will give them back once I have paid him out but I am yet to see a solicitor and am ages away from property settlement. I feel it is a violation of privacy and I don’t want him coming and going as he pleases. He plans to continue seeing our children from our home once he leaves but I would rather he see them in his own home. I need to get on with my life without the constant intrusion. Do I have any rights to having my keys back or should I just change the locks?

Changing the locks is a great idea, but he can still get in with the remote. I think that he is just using these things to manipulate you and the situation. He wants to have some control over you that he isn’t willing to let go of right now. I’d say, let him hold the keys and remote in his hand. Change the locks so that the keys will be useless. As for the remote, he can only get what is in the garage so take everything out of the garage that is important to you. Lock every door and window when you are not home because once he figures out that his plan is not working, he will be angry and try to get in other ways. Or, he will simply realize that his actions were silly and move on by giving them back to you (kind of like giving up and realizing that he has been defeated). Locks are about 15 bucks. Well worth the peace of mind.
