legal opinion on cooling off penalty please?

I pulled out of a house contract before 3 days cooling off and did not pay any deposit on the house – now have a legal bill for a penalty fee. Can they make me pay? They have sold the house anyway since and suffered no loss. Appreciate any help before it costs me more with a solicitor fee. Thanks in advance

I’m not aware of a 3 day cooling off period for a mortgage contract in the 5 states where we’ve bought property.
