Is it in our economic and political interests to maintain crime rates? Does this employ and create work for a number of people like lawyers and judges and police and social workers?

If other social measures were created to down the crime rate, would our political leaders work to put them in place – or to maintain an outdated and destructive social behavioral limitation system?

Well, social workers do a lot more than deal with crime — they deal with social problems like depression, neglect and stress that very often don’t lead to criminal behavior.

And even without crime, the concepts of contracts and legal documents would keep many lawyers and judges busy — criminal defense and prosecution is only one part of the law.
