How do you go about suing someone/s for defermation of character?
A few people I know have been more than gossiping, they have been defaming my character.
As they are loud and vocal – this has lead me being "cruicified".
How do I do about stopping them.Would a solicitors letter or notice in the paper help?
Thankyou for the answers so far.Sounds like it will be diificult -and I am not sure if I can prove it -but it has definetly affected my whole life direction. It has also impacted on relations with my family.
I don’t know how to make those that have lied to tell the truth, but I will continue to try and i guess i can hope that maybe just one of the people involved will develop a concience and tell the truth?

  1. Well, first of all, if you can prove your case, it is a pretty serious situation. You have to prove a couple of different points though. First, you must prove that the person or persons accused have done or said something with the ,malicious intent to have a negative impact on you, your well being and social status. Second, you have to prove that what they did or said has done just that. This is a case that is extremely difficult to sustain. So, good luck whit it!

  2. A civil lawsuit is expensive and will be impossible unless you have proof. The attorney’s fees alone will make it not worth it.

If you’re just talking about people saying bad things about you to each other, I would suggest separating yourself from those people. If it goes beyond that, check with your local jurisdiction or court system about obtaining a harassment restraining order. If you feel threatened or harassed, file police reports, make documentation, etc.

A notice in the paper won’t do anything. You could send a "notice of intent to file suit" letter to scare them, but I wouldn’t suggest if it’s not a large company defaming you on TV, for example.

    Good luck.

Crucifixion is pretty serious. One guy actually created an entire religion out of it. Make sure you show the court the nail holes in your hands. It sounds like you’ve got a good case for damages.

Of course, if you haven’t actually suffered financial losses, then you’re going to have a hard time claiming damages. Gossip, embarrassment, and humiliation are not good enough grounds for a lawsuit. Otherwise the tabloids would all be out of business for ridiculing the celebrities.

  4. 1 DON’T EGG THEM ON
    2 DON’T TAKE ANY NOTICE
3 THE MORE YOU GET RILED THE MORE THEY WILL PURSUE
    4 DON’T PLAY THERE GAME
5 JUST BE YOURSELF,TRYING TO BE DIFFERENT MAKE FOR THESE LITTLE PROBLEMS (OR TRYING TO LOOK AND SOUND BETTER)
6 PURSUING LEGAL ACTION MAY GIVE YOU SATISFACTION, BUT THE PROBLEM WILL STILL BE THERE
7 TRY NOT TO BE OUT SPOKEN
8 LET PEOPLE SEE YOU FROM THE OUTSIDE NOT FROM WHAT COMES OUT (BEING VERBAL CAN CAUSE BIG PROBLEMS)(KEEP YOUR THOUGHTS TO YOUR SELF)
