I am on a mortgage and now I want to add my wife’s name to the house I own now so it becomes our joint asset. How do I do that?
How much is it? Do I have to go for a solicitor or I can DIY?
Thank you.

Just go down to the title company and add her to the deed.

I would only do this if you are 100% sure you will never divorce, otherwise you will have to sell it and give her half.

  2. Talk to your lawyer & find out how.

I am assuming you want your wife’s name on the mortgage as well as the property’s title deed? If so, speak with your bank/mortgage broker about adding her name to the mortgage (be careful, there may be exit fees or re-establishment fees charged by the bank). Next step is to transfer a half share of the property into your wifes name – see your Solicitor because Transfer documents need to be drawn up and sent to the appropriate government department for registration. See you bank first though; they should be able to guide you in the right direction. Depending on your banks fees (if any), Solicitor fees and Transfer registration fees, it could be quite costly for you.
