Depends on what type of assets the estate is comprised of.
Just because probate has issued the executor the right to proceed does not make liquidation of the estate quicker. Property must be appraised and then sold, thorough search for all assets, Inheritance both Federal and State forms must be filed, all debts must be paid, all before any proceeds are disbursed This process could take up to two years.
Every call to the solicitor increases the fee charged to the estate and the less in your pocket.

Yup, what she said. The bill thing is the biggest hold up IMO. All accounts have to be closed and refunds issued, in let’s say the case of car insurance. All known debtors need to be contacted and asked to submit final bills. A creditor may have time frames to submit bills. For example I think here an estate has to wait at least 9 or 18 months to make sure no other bills are coming in.

That is the biggest time hold up. Plus, again where I am, it is the Executor’s job to contest every bill that comes in. That is for the benefit of the beneficiaries.

Patience and it would be most helpful to completely put it out of your mind. It is now the beginning of January, I doubt you will see anything before Christmas or next summer.

When my dad died it took years to settle and it is from that I give these opinions. I didn’t have the money while he was alive and I got by, so when it finally came it was nice, but not that big of a change.
