To become a Criminal barrister in Australia, do i need to be a solicitor first, and which university degree(s) will best allow me to be admitted as a legal practitioner?

  1. It depends which state you’re in, as each has a sort of governing body that handles these things. In some states there is no formal distinction between barristers and solicitors. Here’s a brochure from the Law Society of South Australia that explains the process here in SA: http://www.lawsocietysa.asn.au/community/careers_in_law.pdf If you don’t live in SA just go to the website of the equivalent body in your own state (if you’re not sure, just run a Google search for ‘law society’ and your state) and I’m sure you can find similar information there easily enough.
