Are you thinking about selling your home yourself? then
The purpose of the inquest is to develop the facts, to question the persons who were present at the death, to examine any autopsy, to ask for expert medical opinion.
Was there sufficient legal reason to have an inquest? Generally, somebody in the family must have the courts go forward with an inquest — was there a murder?
Added later after e-mail from Asker:
It appears to be a matter of medical malpractice rather than a crime. In such a case, somebody [your father] will consider engaging the services of a solicitor for the purposes of bringing a civil action for medical malpractice and wrongful death. Once such an action is initiated, all medical records will be available by subpoena, and it would be possible to take depositions (testimony) of witnesses, including doctors and nurses.
Litigation will not bring your mother back, but it will be the first step toward getting answers to your questions. This is a matter of law specific to your jurisdiction. I am limited by my knowledge of only law of the United States.
