Please help me. Where can I get free legal advice in Australia? Im a mother of 3 kids and my hubby’s lawyers have written a letter that the marriage is over and I need to leave the house immediately. It has all come as a shock coz I thought we were happy. Me and my kids are dependents on his 457 visa. Please help. Im a casual worker and dont earn as much as him.

Are you thinking about selling your home yourself? then
theres no way his lawer can do that, perhaps he is using his status as a lawer just to make u afraid.lf you’re legally married, you and your husband have to fill up for a legal separation, and you are not the one who will leave the house, because you have kids with your husband right?so,l think your husband is trying to freak you out because he doesnt want to pay allimony.lf you get the legal separation, you will earn money from your husband.so,dont be afraid .
I am not very sure of the answer but can give u a few tips here –
Check the immigration website if u qualify for any aid like that.
More importantly, u have to be out of the country in 28 days if u dont get some other employer to sponsor you on their 457 – try for that – it is not very expensive – costs abt 2 grand but if someone gives u sponsorship, u are good.
Can not answer your question about free legal help, however you probably need to talk to the immigration department in Australia (should be one in every capital and most major cities) as well.
For information on 457 visas (this page goes to the government website about the 457 visa): http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/skilled-workers/sbs/
You should note however the 457 visa is a temporary business/work (long stay) visa type. It does not give you an automatic right to stay here in Australia indefinitely. To stay you have to go through the appropriate process (check with immigration).
But it sounds like you need not just legal advice regarding the marriage / divorce but advice on your immigration status. Best way to get the right information is to go directly to them.
P.S. Do not rely on the idea of alimony. I don’t know if that exists here in Australia. Child support does, but the system can suck (for anyone) just like it does in other countries.
