I am just after a rough figure as I have been told it is very expensive but they are good as they pretty much do all your dirty work for you and take a lot of the stress and emotion out of it. Obviously in my case there will be custodial arrangements etc so I guess this will add to the cost. Is there any sort of cost assistance you can get if you are a single parent?

Can do it on your own. But of all things be respectfull to one another and don’t allow it to get nasty. Lawyers will try to do that so they can make more money. If you do you will sell your sole to them and regret it later on.
