Before that, did she have to go through an expensive, stressful, and/or tedious process of finding a lawyer, filling out forms, and going to court again just to claim compensation? If she did get compensation, when & how much did she get? Or is it a low amount that a legislation has predetermined?

Please note your information source. I’m interested in replies from any Australian lady who has read Women’s magazines after Lindy was freed, OR anyone who is a law student or solicitor or journalist with an interest in that unfortunate saga.
OK, I found out how much she got but not the rest yet. If you know but aren’t in the above groups, then pls share it now that I know it was the media too that portrayed her as guilty long before a trial.

Are White Australians so bigotted & still hateful of Lindy that they now refuse to acknowledge anything with her name mentioned? She was exonerated you know.

On the 21 October 1987 the N.T Govt enacted a special legislation to allow the Chamberlains to appeal to the Court of Appeal to have her conviction scrubbed. 15 September 1988: the Court of Criminal Appeal granted it. Stuart Tipple, a solicitor, applied for $4 million because he thought that was what it was worth for the stress & injustice. Seven months later the N.T Govt demanded a full disclosure of assets from the Chamberlains before it said it would consider any “fair compensation.” (From http://www.law.umkc

In 1992 she was given only $1.3 Million for wrongful imprisonment. (http://www.law.umkc.edu /faculty/ projects/FTr

You can examine audio recordings, newspaper clippings and other material collected by Margaret Neale and held at the National Library (see http://nla.gov.au/nla.ms-ms9514)

As to illogical and hateful bigotry many older white generations from the X generation back were like that to anyone different, my mum says. She’s an immigrant with an accent and doesn’t look like other Europeans who can eventually blend in (e.g. Russians & Germans) and also adopt the negative prejudices of majority white Australians. It was mostly Aboriginals who believed the story of dingoes being capable of killing a human baby. But most white Australians back then thought, “What do they know? They’ve only been here living in the wild for up to 40,000 years.”

Lindy and Michael Chamberlain were stimuli for many prejudicial responses I say. The following was from http://www.lindychamberlain.com/files/%27Why_Australia_W
      hy%27-Innocence_Regained pdf :
Stupid attitudes that ranged from: hate by traditional Christian denominations towards Seventh Day Adventists; ridicule by Atheists who hated the Chamberlains’ display of religious piety because they hate any denomination and sect that is based on the Bible; naïve misconceptions of psychology and body language (such as the fact that Lindy wasn’t emotional on TV and the police said she had “Killer eyes” as if they were romance novelists, LOL). Even civil liberty people and academics didn’t like the way she looked (LOL, have you seen the dorks in academia?)

Maybe all of those people are too proud to say "Sorry" and secretly hold onto their false beliefs. They say they’re "sick of anything to do with her." They certainly didn’t follow facts so none of them would be able to answer your question Aunty Enigma.
