You must be licensed in each state to practice law there.

There is no limit to the number of states you can be licensed in, but you need to pass, or meet the requirements, of their state exam first.

The common term for this is being a member of "The Bar" in that state. The bar refers to the railing that separates the spectator area from the area that the actors (judge, prosecution, and defense) sit in the courtroom. In order to pass "the bar", you must be licensed.
