I have no clue about Australia, but most likely there is some kind of legal aid there. But if you want free legal advice since you cant afford a lawyer, wont fly, since to qualify in most cases, you literally need to be in poverty. If every lawyer out there took on pro-bono (free), they would be in poverty since they have to pay their bills and they went to school at least 3 years to get their law degree.

Many lawyers will give you 1 free consult to see if you have a case or not to pursue. Call up some and inquire if they do. My husband (retired lawyer in US) did this all the time. But if they believe you have a valid case, then be prepared to pay for it and sign a contract to have this lawyer to represent you. In some cases where a woman was chasing an ex for back support, he would just suggest going to the prosecutors office instead and paying them $25 to do this vs paying him $200 an hour. There maybe other alternatives you could go vs getting a lawyer and they may suggest that to you.
